During the month of February, we read many African American themed books to celebrate Black History Month. Inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,"I have a dream" we wrote 6 page books about the dreams we have for attending high school, what we'll do as adults, and our ultimate dreams. We also sent entries into the Santa Clara County Reading Council for its annual writing contest. The five Primary California Young Reader Medal books were read during this month and we mailed our voting results into the California Reading Association. The CRA will compile votes from students throughout California. We look forward to finding out the winner in April! March was kicked off with the National Education Association sponsored "Read Across America Read-In." This annual literacy event is observed by school children throughout the United States on the anniversary of the birth of Ted Geisel, we know as Dr. Seuss. Ms. Macarenhas, a Santa Clara city librarian, was our guest reader and we enjoyed hearing and discussing Horton Finds A Who. Thank you to Mrs. Garrett and Student Council for coordinating this event! March is Women's History Month, National Pork Month, and the Feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph are celebrated. We have been reading many of these themed books in class and have been excited about checking out books of our favorite authors on our weekly visit to the Santa Clara City Library. We continue our Lenten practices, which include praying the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross. We will serve in some of the ministries at the March 12th all school Mass. Reception of our First Eucharist is fast approaching and we continue to prepare our minds and hearts to receive Jesus.
