May

Please keep a close eye on your student for the remainder of the year.  This is the time of the year when some students start to think about the summer and check out of school early.  In other words, they stop doing their homework and do not study for tests or complete major projects.  With everything that is going on at this time of year, our busy schedules can make it very difficult for a student to catch up with the work that they failed to turn in earlier in the trimester.  On Wednesday June 11, 2008 we will have our end of the year class picnic with the sixth grade at Saratoga Springs.  As we get closer to that date we will provided additional details.

Language Arts

We will spend the remainder of the year investigating poetry and short stories in our literature text.  Students will have homework on the various poems and short stories that we investigate.

Social Studies

We are nearing completion of Chapter 6, Medieval Europe.  Students will then investigate the Reformation and the Renaissance and if time allows, we will look at the Age of Enlightenment.   We are nearing the end of the Junior Scholastic for this year.   I believe that the current issue is the last one for the year.  Also remind your student to check for their Current Event due date because each student does one about every 5 weeks.

Math

We have started Chapter 8, Fraction Applications.  Upon completion of Chapter we will do Chapter 9 Reasoning with Proportions.  If time permits, we will begin Chapter 10 an explore probability.  We continue to do our Maintenance sheets daily and the corrected Maintenance sheets go home about every seven days and the students should correct their work to receive full credit for this.  Mr Santich and I are available to help students at recess or lunch in areas where they may be having some difficulties.

Vocabulary

Homework will be due every Friday and the students will have a test to go along with each unit on Fridays.
